MOSCOW, September 14 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will be able to aim for doubling of GDP after 2008, Minister of Economic Development and Trade German Gref said Wednesday.
"If we carry out mid-term reforms successfully, we will be able to hit this trajectory after 2008," Gref told the lower chamber of the Russian parliament, the State Duma.
According to the minister, Russia has to maintain an annual economy growth rate of at least 7.2% to double the GDP in 10 years.
He reiterated that it would be impossible to reach this goal by 2010.
"The goal of doubling Russia's GDP before 2010 is hardly realistic," he said, adding that the annual growth rate must be higher than 11% to accomplish this task.
"However, this task, the doubling of GDP, is viable in general," Gref said. "We will do everything possible to accomplish it [this task]."
