MOSCOW, January 25 (RIA Novosti) -- Russia could introduce a fee for truck transit across its territory from 2007, a transportation official said Wednesday.
Alexander Misharin, deputy transportation minister, said his ministry was drafting a concept to introduce a fee for the transit of trucks across Russia.
"The mechanism for charging a transit tax will stipulate per hour and per mile fees," Misharin said, adding that the new fee could be introduced in 2007.
The fee will only add about 2%-3% to the standard cost of transportation and, therefore, will not seriously affect the cost of goods transported through Russia, he said.
