Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called on Moscow's authorities to improve the competitive environment in the city.
First Deputy Premier Igor Shuvalov on Saturday told the president, that according to the annual Federal Antimonopoly Service's (FAS) report, the economic downturn has deteriorated economic climate in Russia.
"Competitive environment has substantively slacked off. We will be able to be back to the pre-crisis characteristics only after 1-1.5 years," Shuvalov told Medvedev.
Shuvalov emphasized, that economic competition is extremely complicated in several Russian regions, including Moscow region and Moscow.
"Monopolies easily arise in large rich cities," Medvedev said. "Moscow's market is highly uncompetitive. Moscow city government has to think about this," he added.
The same time, Shuvalov gave high estimation to the FAS struggle with monopolistic practices.
