This summer's severe drought and forest fires destroyed 13.3 million hectares of the country's grain crop, the Russian Agriculture Ministry said on Tuesday.
This amounted to a third of the expected harvest.
Previous estimates put the figure at 10.8 million hectares.
Losses amounted to 41.5 billion rubles ($1.3 billion), the ministry said.
But Russia's domestic needs of 77 million tons will be met regardless, Agriculture Minister Yelena Skrynnik said in September.
The Kremlin's ban on grain exports has triggered a domestic and global rise in grain prices.
