Flooding in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar has killed 13 people and twelve are missing, the regional prosecutor's office said on Sunday.
"According to the latest data, 13 people are dead, including a pregnant woman. Three bodies of women have not yet been identified. As many as twelve people are missing," Gennady Vasyunin, head of the Tuapse investigative department at the regional prosecutor's office, said.
Torrential rains in mountainous areas caused rivers to overflow, flooding more than 20 villages. About 300 people, including 70 children, were evacuated. Local authorities imposed a state of emergency in the area.
Russian prosecutors earlier reported that 11 people had been killed in the flooding while the regional emergencies center put the death toll at 10.
The situation in the flooded area has stabilized and people are currently returning to their homes.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered Regional Development Minister Viktor Basargin to assess the damage caused by the flooding and take measures to help those affected.
Krasnodar Territory governor Alexander Tkachev said the flooding damage will be worth several hundred million rubles and pledged to pay compensations and eliminate consequences of the disaster as soon as possible.
