Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called for increasing incentives for alternative energy use in boiler houses on Wednesday.
"Gas is not the best fuel for all cases. We have a lot of gas but it is expensive fuel, this is why the future is in alternative energy. We have been talking of creating some additional incentives for the development of the alternative energy sector, including even using pellets, in the regions," Medvedev told a government meeting which discussed preparations for the heating season.
Medvedev said there should be incentives for boiler stations to work on such fuel.
Much of Russia's multi-storey housing relies on central heating using piped hot water from centralized boiler houses.
