MOSCOW, March 28 (R-Sport) – Biathlon superstars Martin Fourcade and Tora Berger will compete in Moscow's annual Champions Race, organizers announced on Thursday.
The commercial competition, which is held after the regular biathlon season, takes place Saturday on a 1.5-km track inside Olympiysky Stadium.
One of biathlon's most-recognizable names, Fourcade earned his eighth World Cup title of the season in Sochi earlier this month. This will be the 24-year-old Frenchman's third appearance at the Moscow race.
He and Berger, this season's women's World Cup winner, join several notable biathletes, including two-time Olympic champion Emil Hegle Svendsen, former world champions Tarjei Boe and Darya Domracheva and last year's Champions Race winners Marie Dorin Habert and Jakov Fak.
Berger, 32, makes her first appearance in the Champions Race.
"Tora Berger's teammates played a big role in her decision to participate in the race, as they told her how well it is organized," said race director Alexander Pak. "She decided to make sure of it for herself."
The competition features two mass start races and a mixed relay. According to organizers, there are 2,000 tickets still available at the 18,500-seat venue.
