Kiev has called on all countries whose citizens died in the crash of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 in eastern Ukraine to send police to guard the crash site and to help the investigation, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

MOSCOW, July 22 (RIA Novosti) – Kiev has called on all countries whose citizens died in the crash of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 in eastern Ukraine to send police to guard the crash site and to help the investigation, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

“We call on the countries, whose citizens became victims in the airline crash and who are the most interested with Ukraine in investigating a complete and independent investigation, to examine the possibility of sending police units to provide security at and around the site of the airline crash and provide necessary aid in the investigation," the ministry’s statement said.

The ministry also said Kiev welcomes the UN Security Council’s unanimous approval of the resolution supporting a thorough and independent international investigation into the plane crash.

“We deem the result of the vote, a wide range of co-authors of the resolution, as well as the Security Council’s unquestioning support of the international community’s efforts to conduct a throughout and thorough independent investigation in coordination with ICAO and other international organizations,” the statement said.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed on July 17 near the city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, causing death of all 283 passengers and 15 crew members.

Ukrainian authorities place the blame for the crash on independence supporters in the country’s eastern regions, while the latter maintain they do not have the means to shoot down a plane flying at 32,000 feet.

Russia urged Ukraine not to use the crash for political goals and called for a thorough investigation under UN’s International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) auspices.

Late Monday, the UN Security Council condemned the downing of the passenger plane and unanimously voted in support of a thorough and independent international investigation of the incident.

The 15-member council said in a resolution it “supports efforts to establish a full, thorough and independent international investigation into the incident in accordance with international civil aviation guidelines.”

The council also demanded that “the armed groups in control of the crash site and the surrounding area provide safe, secure, full and unrestricted access to the site and surrounding area for the appropriate investigating authorities, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and representatives of other relevant international organizations according to ICAO and other established procedures."
