MOSCOW, August 4 (RIA Novosti) – The earthquake death toll in the China’s southwestern province of Yunnan reached 381 with another 1,900 people being injured, CBS channel reported Monday.
The media reports earlier said 367 people were killed in the disaster.
The 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit China’s southwestern province of Yunnan on Sunday. The shocks were registered at 4.30 p.m. local time (08:30 GMT). The epicenter was 11 kilometers from Wenping and 29 kilometers from Zhaotong. The quake struck at a depth of about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
The Yunnan province’s Ludian county, home to over 265,000 people, has been most affected. The phone connection was lost and several buildings were destroyed, as well as the power lines.
According to local authorities, the quake became the strongest to hit Yunnan in the past 14 years.
