MOSCOW, August 4 (RIA Novosti) — Government authorities in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region offer cash rewards to people willing to help hunt suspected terrorists, according to authorized governmental portal China.org.cn.
Over ten thousand officials and residents were present at the award ceremony in Hotan Prefecture on Sunday as awards amounting to 4.23 million yuan were distributed among the people who helped apprehend a group of 10 terror suspects, the website reports.
The terrorist group was identifies by police on July 27, and 30 thousand volunteers in total helped the authorities to hunt them down. The suspects resisted arrest and police had to use deadly force to subdue them; one was killed and the other nine were captured alive, according to China.org.cn.
A total of 300 million yuan (about $48 million) are being offered to volunteer hunters by the authorities.
