A US Air Force spy plane while on a mission along Russian borders violated the Swedish airspace. Radio VR experts and listeners discuss whether it was accidental and whether further provocations are possible.

Radio VR have an exclusive interview with Johan Backmann, Doctor of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki. On our Burning Point program he talked about the latest incident involving a NATO spy plane. A US Air Force spy plane while on a mission along Russian borders violated the Swedish airspace. The Swedish government requested explanations from the US Embassy; however, it did not seem to mind the intrusion very much.

“I don’t believe that the air space of Sweden was violated. I think that there was an agreement between the US and Sweden about kind of a legal violation of the air space. I think that Sweden is giving plenty of aid to the US intelligence against Russia. It is very well known that Sweden was providing the US with the intelligence information about Russia. And it is very likely that Sweden is now cooperating with the US against Russia in this very tense situation, where it is very probable that the US is preparing another provocation in the Baltic Sea against Moscow.”

Did US ‘violate’ Swedish airspace while spying on Russia?

Here is what our listeners think:

Ian Latimer: “NATO is now just a weapon of small eastern states hoping for funding from the bankrupt US. The real NATO and its original concept disappeared when the iron curtain came down. It has now been hijacked by [those] who think they have a chance to have a [go] at Russia. Grow up and stop playing games that risk the lives of innocent civilians.”

Gunnar Forsgren: “Sweden has a deal allowing American AWACS spy planes to fly over Sweden. It is a shame that this country have no independence and own politics any more. Swedish citizens have NO SAY AT ALL in this.”

David James: “As a US citizen I am ashamed of my country. But the American people truly are behind you and for Russia. We don't like Nazis either. So don't let the anti-Russian rhetoric from some sites detour you from this belief because most are from government dis-information propagandist hired by the CIA or NSA... Most Americans believe any half paragraph meme on FaceBook or 30 second sound bite from leftist news sources.”

What do you think, our listeners and readers?

Meanwhile, there are a lot of discussions in the wake of the new sanctions taken against Russia and Moscow's counter-measures. For example, Jon Hellevig, a Finnish political analyst and businessman, believes that the voice of the Western business community cannot be heard by the policy makers?
