KIEV, August 17 (RIA Novosti) - Canada has delivered the third and last batch non-lethal military materiel to Ukraine's border guard detachments, the spokesperson for Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council said Sunday.
"Yesterday, Canadian Air Forces' plane arrived in Borispol airport and delivered the next [third] part of the cargo, in particular, helmets and bulletproof vests for the use of Ukraine's border guard subdivisions," Andriy Lysenko said at a briefing.
Canada's Department of National Defense said on its website Saturday that the CC-177 Globemaster III strategic airlifter, filled with military equipment, took off from the Trenton base as part of Canada’s ongoing support to Ukraine.
The first batch was sent off on August 7 with the Canadian plane, carrying 32 tons of non-lethal military materiel, landing in Borispol four days later.
Canada’s contribution amounts almost up to $5 million and includes a range of targeted protection, medical and logistical equipment, such as helmets, ballistic eyewear, protective vests, first aid kits, tents and sleeping bags.
Kiev said earlier that it did not receive any military support from any country in the course of its military operation.
The Ukrainian regions of Luhansk and Donetsk are currently facing a humanitarian crisis, as a result of Kiev’s ongoing military activity in the country’s southeast. Moscow has repeatedly urged the Ukrainian government to put an end to the conflict.
The confrontation started when the Ukrainian government tried to suppress the independence supporters in southeastern Ukraine who refused to acknowledge the new authorities after the government coup on February 22.
