Chats, twits, likes, selfies, elevator looks, checking-in, posts and reposts, all these words can be combined into one simple term – social media. In this edition of “Looking Forward” hosts Marina Dzhashi and a prominent Russian writer Victor Erofeyev are talking about what is this phenomenon all about and why are we so addicted to it. And today’s guests are Jeff Bullas, author of “Blogging the Smart Way - How to Create and Market a Killer Blog with Social Media”; and Alan Stevens, media coach and social media expert.
As everything that surrounds us social media has its pluses and minuses. It allows us to instantly connect with each other, feel ourselves in a community and not alone. Social networks provide us with the masks and help hide in the virtual reality, which is sometimes convenient even for the most outright extroverts, let alone the introverts, who need this invisibility as a breathing air to enter the social game.
But, on the other hand, the paradox of social networks is that people lose their communication skills. They prefer to chat virtually but not in the reality. And probably the most neglected case is when you sit in a café with some friends, and you all look at the screens of your gadgets, and not at each other. Maybe, this is when you should pause to think about an addiction.
