KIEV, October 27 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk confirmed after talks with President Petro Poroshenko late on Sunday that the parliamentary majority coalition in newly-elected parliament will be formed as quickly as possible.
Yatsenyuk is a leader of the People's Front, a political party that is a close runner up to Poroshenko's bloc in the current parliamentary race with more than 21 percent of the vote.
"I just had a meeting with the Ukrainian president, and we agreed to form a coalition as soon as possible to ensure that the new government, the new parliament quickly and efficiently carry out desperately needed reforms," Yatsenyuk told reporters.
Poroshenko, whose bloc is leading the elections with some 23 percent of the vote, earlier said People's Front would be his bloc's key ally in the future coalition.
The president said the coalition talks would be completed in ten days to coincide with the official announcement of the election's outcome.
Early parliamentary elections were held in Ukraine on Sunday. Ukrainians went to the polls to vote in 423 members of parliament - 225 of them from party lists and 198 in single-candidate constituencies. The electoral threshold has been set at five percent. Voting results are expected to be announced on Wednesday.
The Petro Poroshenko Bloc is a Ukrainian liberal-conservative party, aimed mainly at helping Poroshenko implement his election promises, such as furthering Ukraine's aim to become a member of the European Union, enhancing social protection, ending corruption and establishing energy independence.
The People's Front party led by Arseniy Yatsenyuk also stands for Ukraine's integration into the European Union, in particular, the establishment of a visa-free travel regime between Ukraine and the European Union. In addition, the party calls for economic, fiscal, judicial, and prosecution reforms.
