The Iranian Foreign Minister hopes to achieve consent with the Western partners regarding Tehran's nuclear program.

MOSCOW, November 18 (Sputnik) – An agreement on Iran’s nuclear program may be reached if there are no “excessive demands” set, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif said Tuesday during the opening session of talks with the P5+1 group in Vienna, Austria.

"A deal is still possible," Zarif was quoted by Iranian media as saying. "If, because of excessive demands by the other side, we don't get a result then the world will understand that the Islamic Republic sought a solution, a compromise and a constructive agreement and that it will not renounce its rights and the greatness of the nation,” Agence France Presse quoted the minister as saying.

Iran's nuclear program has been a matter of concern for many countries. The West has been accusing Iran of attempting to develop nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear program, claims Tehran has denied. Iran is currently under sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council and the European Union, as well as the United States and a number of other countries.

At a meeting in November 2013 in Geneva, Iran and the P5+1 group of international negotiators, which comprises Russia, China, France, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, agreed to reach a long-term agreement on Iran's nuclear program by July. The deadline was later postponed to November 24.

During the meeting Iran also agreed to limit the scope of its nuclear program in exchange for a partial lifting of sanctions on the country.
