UNITED NATIONS, November 19 (Sputnik) — The General Assembly's Third Committee has adopted a resolution, encouraging the UN Security Council to consider referring the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over human rights violations.
The resolution was adopted with 111 in favor, 19 against and 55 abstaining.
Prior to the vote on the resolution, an amendment put forward by Cuba on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to change the ICC language to “adopt a new cooperative approach to the consideration of human rights in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” was voted down with 40 in favor, 77 against and 50 abstaining.
