MOSCOW, December 1 (Sputnik) — Five men have been taken into custody in the United Kingdom on suspicion of planning terror acts, Sky News reported on Monday.
Three of the men, aged 33, 43 and 28, were arrested at Dover port, from where they attempted to leave the United Kingdom, according to the broadcaster. Two other men, aged 24 and 40, were detained in London.
All five men are suspected of the commission, preparation and instigation of terror acts. They are all being held at a police station in central London.
Meanwhile, the police are currently searching for four addresses in east London and one in south London.
Sky News quoted Scotland Yard as saying that "This operation is not in response to any immediate threat."
The arrests come as the UK parliament convenes on Tuesday its second reading of a governmental bill that envisages tough measures against terrorism. The readings of the bill will continue through December, and, if being adopted, will confiscate the passports of citizens suspected of travelling abroad to take part in terror activities.
The bill also seeks to ban such travelers from returning to the United Kingdom for two years and will oblige public establishments to make sure people are not involved in terror activities.
