NEW DELHI, December 7 — President of India Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday congratulated the Indian Space Research Organistaion (ISRO) on the successful launch of GSAT-16 communication satellite.
"Please accept my heartiest congratulations to your team and you at the ISRO for the successful launch of India's Communication Satellite GSAT-16. The nation is proud of this achievement, which is a significant milestone in the progress of our space capabilities," the president said in a message to the ISRO chairman.
GSAT-16 was launched earlier on Sunday by the European carrier rocker Ariane-5 from the Kourou space port in French Guiana along with a US broadcast satellite DIRECTV-14.
The telecommunication satellite GSAT-16 with a total weight of over 7,000 pounds will cover the entire territory of India.
