Another source in the Syrian army told Sputnik that the airstrikes have damaged the buildings at the airport and in Damascus suburbs.
Earlier in the day, Syrian military sources told Sputnik that the airstrikes also targeted an arms depot, where explosions were heard.
Syrian Joint Staff condemned the attacks in a press release, adding that these airstrikes show that Israel directly supports terrorism. Damascus added that the airstrikes were conducted right after Syrian army had made some progress and partially regained control from militants in Deir Al-Zor.
Israeli Airstrikes on Damascus Target Hezbollah Arms Depot: Reports
“The airstrikes aimed at arms stored for Hezbollah organization,” the IBC statement said.
Earlier in the day, Syrian military sources told Sputnik that the Israeli Air Force had conducted several airstrikes close to Damascus international airport, and in Dimus region, targeting also an arms depot. Several explosions could be heard following the attack.
Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shiite paramilitary and political organization. Recognized as a terrorist group by many western countries, Hezbollah is one of Israel's most powerful opponents.
