Little Irish Boy Back in the USSR
09:00 GMT 08.12.2014 (Updated: 09:29 GMT 08.12.2014) Estelle Winters is joined in the studio this time for Anytime by Barry Brennan, one of the children of the first Irish Ambassador to the USSR, Edward Brennan. He said he remembers this time of year so well as a little boy, especially the cold and new year parties given by his mother.
In this edition of Anytime it’s quite clear that Barry Brennan adored his childhood years in the USSR. He said he so admired his father and looked up to him as the first Irish Ambassador to the Soviet Union. He remembers smuggling Soviet friends into the Embassy when he was still small. The family lived for a time in the Hotel National so he frequently crept out to Red Square when his parents were asleep to watch the changing of the guard.
