MOSCOW, December 12 (Sputnik) — Palestinian authorities are set to discuss response measures to the death of senior Palestinian official Ziad Abu Ein in a meeting on Sunday, Saleh Raafat, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, said Friday.
"The meeting has been moved… to Sunday evening due to the ongoing commemoration of martyr Abu Ein," Raafat said in a radio interview with the Voice of Palestine.
Ziad Abu Ein, head of the Palestinian Authority committee against the separation wall and settlements, died after Palestinian protesters clashed with the Israeli military on Wednesday. According to local media, an Israeli soldier hit the official in the chest with a helmet.
Following an autopsy carried out by Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian doctors, conflicting accounts of the cause of death were given, with Palestinians stating that Abu Ein died from being hit in the chest and inhaling large amounts of tear gas, while Israel claimed that the official's death was caused by a preexisting heart condition.
Palestinian officials have condemned the incident and stated that the Palestinian side is considering various response measures over Abu Ein's death, including ceasing security cooperation with Israel.
