MOSCOW, December 15 (Sputnik) — The location where Russian President Vladimir Putin will record the traditional New Year address to the nation will not be disclosed by the Kremlin in advance of the New Year's Eve broadcast, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
"We never announce it in advance and reveal [the location]," Peskov was quoted as saying by the Russian News Service radio.
Kremlin's Spasskaya Tower, usually featured in the presidential New Year address, has been closed for renovation this year and is not expected to make an appearance in the video speech.
In light of the renovation works, those celebrating the New Year's Eve on Red Square in Moscow will not be able to see the tower's clock traditionally marking the beginning of a new year.
Annually, a few minutes before the end of the year, the Russian president's speech is televised across the country. The president highlights the main events of the year and talks of the country's plans for the future.
