BAGHDAD, December 17 (Sputnik) – The Iraqi forces have discovered storage facilities with prohibited toxic chemicals in the western province of Anbar, suffering from Islamic State (IS) insurgency, the commander of Sunni militia Sahwat al-Iraq, said Wednesday.
"The security forces have discovered storage facilities with chemical agents, prohibited by international conventions in the Al Baghdadi and Ad Dulab regions [in Anbar province], from which Islamic State militants were recently driven out," sheikh Wissam Hardan was quoted as saying by Iraqi Media Network.
Sahwat al-Iraq is fighting along with the Iraqi Army against IS militants.
The Iraqi military killed 105 IS militants over the past two days in the designated regions, according to Iraq Defense Ministry.
The Islamic State extremist group, that has been making advances in Iraq since June, has been suspected of using chemicals as a weapon, according to media reports, citing local officials. The militant group has reportedly used chlorine against the Iraqi forces over in the recent months.
