MOSCOW, December 19 (Sputnik) — Family members of the Chinese passengers from missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 staged a protest near the foreign ministry in Beijing, the AFP reported Friday.

They were confronted by police who manhandled and pushed protesters who tried to enter the gate and warned passerby to leave the area.

"My son is alive and I want to know what the government is doing to find him," said Liu Dianyun, the mother of one of the passengers.

It took some of the protesters two hours to get to the demonstration; despite they knew their actions would be fruitless.

Chinese passengers account for nearly two-thirds of the 239 passenger of the ill-fated Boeing 777.

According to media reports, dozens of their relatives were beaten and arrested earlier this year.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, went missing on March 8 with all 227 passengers and 12 members of the crew. The plane allegedly disappeared into the southern Indian Ocean.

Currently, Australia is leading the search operation for the plane.

According to the Joint Agency Co-ordination Centre, some 200,000 square kilometers have been covered so far, and the future of the operation will be decided jointly by Australia, China and Malaysia.
