MOSCOW, December 29 (Sputnik) — Damascus has sent three diplomats to Kuwait's capital to resume the work of the Syrian Embassy following a nine-month pause, television channel Al Mayadeen reported Monday.

"Three diplomats have left for Kuwait City today to resume work of Syrian Embassy," the television channel said on its website.

On December 3, it was reported that three Syrian diplomats were allowed to return to Kuwait. According to Kuwait Times, which cited Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah, the diplomats were granted entry visas so that they could resume their work. Kuwait has over 130,000 Syrian nationals living on its territory, some of whom might require assistance, Al-Jarallah said, explaining the decision.

In March, the Syrian government announced the closure of its embassies in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, citing the countries' refusal to accredit its diplomats since the start of the unrest in Syria in 2011.

Since March 2011, Syria has seen an armed conflict between government forces and the opposition.

According to UN estimates made in August, nearly 200,000 people have died in the clashes since the beginning of the conflict.
