“We’ve found four big parts from the plane we’re looking for,” said Fransiskus Bambang Soelistyo, the chief of search and rescue agency, cited by Reuters.
One large piece was found by a ship Friday night, while three others were located Saturday. The search was slowed by bad weather and poor visibility, as it was difficult for underwater remote operating vehicles (ROVs) to capture any images beyond two meters.
Small pieces of the plane and debris have been found, however, no significant pieces have been retrieved, including black boxes and the plane’s fuselage, where most victims’ bodies are thought to be trapped.
The AirAsia flight QZ8501 disappeared last Sunday with 162 people on board while flying from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore.
