MOSCOW, January 6 (Sputnik) — The governor of Gangwon Province, where the 2018 Winter Olympics host city of Pyeongchang is located, has excluded the possibility of holding some events in North Korea, Fox Sports reported Tuesday.
Choi Moon-soon said in an official statement that sharing hosting duties with North Korea was "realistically impossible."
However, the governor did not rule out the possibility of creating a joint Olympic team that would contribute to the improvement of relations between the two countries.
Earlier Choi said that he will consider the possibility of holding snowboarding freestyle and giant slalom competitions on North Korean territory.
In December president and CEO of the PyeongChang 2018 organizing committee Cho Yang-ho said that the 2018 Winter Olympics would not be jointly hosted with Japan.
