PARIS, January 8 (Sputnik) – The French Prosecutor's Office has classified the Thursday killing of a female police officer in a suburb of Paris a terrorist attack, Agence France-Presse reported, citing a Prosecutor's Office statement.
On Thursday morning, a gunman opened fire near a metro station in Montrouge, a southern Paris suburb, injuring a female police officer and a traffic police officer. Later in the day, the police officer died in hospital.
According to the news agency, the Prosecutor's Office did not link the shooting to the Wednesday attack on the office of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, in which alleged Islamic extremists killed 12 people and injured 11 others, however, the decision was made "in view of the current context."
Earlier on Thursday, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said that the gunman involved in the attack is still on the run.
