"We have recorded about 40 violations of the 'silence regime' by the Ukrainian military," Donetsk News Agency quoted the DPR Defense Ministry's statement.
According to the ministry, the Ukrainian army is using artillery, tanks, mortars and grenade launchers. The airport of Donetsk, two districts of the city and the towns of Horlivka and Telmanove came under fire.
At the same time, according to the statement of the Kiev-led special operation’s press service, in the early morning hours of Friday the Ukrainian positions were "shot at 34 times."
The internal conflict in eastern Ukraine erupted in April 2014, when Kiev forces launched a military operation against independence supporters in the country’s eastern regions, who refused to recognize the legitimacy of a new government that came to power following a February coup.
In September, the parties involved in the conflict in Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire with the mediation of Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). However, both Kiev forces and independence supporters of eastern Ukraine have accused each other of violating the truce.
