WASHINGTON, January 9 (Sputnik) – US President Barack Obama is going to appoint the Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the Department of the Treasury David Cohen as the Deputy Director of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the White House said Friday.
"President Obama announced his intent to appoint the following individuals to key Administration posts: David S. Cohen, Appointee for Deputy Director, Central Intelligence Agency," the White House statement read.
CIA Director John Brennan said in a statement Friday that Cohen would "bring a wealth of experience on many of the issues that we focus on as an Agency" and he "looks forward to his insights, expertise, and energy as we address the growing number and diversity of national security challenges facing America today."
Cohen has been the Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the Department of the Treasury since 2011.
His work aimed at identification and disruption of financial support lines to international terrorist organizations, narcotics traffickers, people involved in proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as actors who threaten US national security, according to the department's information.
