MOSCOW, January 13 (Sputnik) – Beijing will dispatch 232 army medical workers to Liberia and Sierra Leone to help battle the Ebola epidemic that has killed 5,000 people, reports Reuters.
They will join 43 army doctors and 35 specialists from the Chinese Center for Disease Control who are already working in Sierra Leone. Already, they have treated 61 patients and trained 1,600 local medical workers.
"Fighting Ebola is not a regional battle, but should be supported globally,'' said deputy director of the National Health and Family Planning Ministry Cui Li, reported Reuters.
China, which has not reported any Ebola cases, has already provided $121m in cash and supplies to the fight against the disease in West Africa.
The country is also looking to increase its humanitarian and diplomatic engagement with Africa on a level proportionate with its economic involvement in the continent, reports Associated Press.
