According to France 24, the car was going the wrong way down a one-way street when the officer tried to stop it. The policewoman was left with wrist, knee and back injuries; the driver and his three passengers left the scene of the accident on foot, according to Sky News.
According to French police, the incident is not connected to the attacks that occurred last week, and occurred after the driver panicked when he realized that he was going against traffic; they've surmised that he did not deliberately strike the policewoman, the Independent reported.
The incident was initially considered a deliberate attack, as one police source told France 24 that the driver "looked into the policewoman's eyes" before driving into her.
The incident comes as France remains tense after the attacks on the newspaper Charlie Hebdo and a kosher supermarket in Paris which left 16 civilians, one police officer and three gunmen dead.
