Moscow, January 19 (Sputnik) — With over 20 million internet users and growing fast, Pakistan has secured the number one slot for searching the term ‘sex’ globally for all years, reports Express Tribune.
This year Pakistan once again tops the list of most porn hungry countries and leads the way in porn searches for animals like pigs, donkeys, dogs, cats and snakes, according to data released by Google.
At the market in Karachi, shopkeepers said that the sale of pornography CDs and DVDs rose dramatically since the ban. He also added that consumers download content from the internet despite the ban, “It doesn’t matter if a few websites are blocked. We can still access many more.” Torrents, which are used to download movies, software and other electronic data from millions of personal computers around the world, are used for pornographic content, the dealers explained.
The report by Pew Research Center noted that in Pakistan, the highest number of hits for some of porn terms, including "shemale sex," come not from Pakistan's cosmopolitan centers, but from Peshawar, a citadel of conservative Islam, lately known in the West as a counterterrorism frontline.
The data revealed by Google, further showed that six of the top eight porn-searching countries were Muslim states. The country at number two in the list was Egypt, while Iran, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Turkey came in at numbers four, five, seven and eight, respectively, as reported by ANI.
As written in a blog Patheos, research conducted by business professor Benjamin Edelman at Harvard, found that states with more traditional views of sex and gender have higher rates of paid porn subscriptions.
Although many Muslim states declare that social morals should not be violated, the data regarding the demand for pornography in these countries, however, suggest the public may feel otherwise, reports ANI.
The efforts of Saudi Arabian government included hacking and disabling about 9,000 Twitter accounts associated with the publication of pornography and arrested many of the handles’ owners. The move was organized by the Commission for the Promotion and Prevention of Vice, also known as Haia, the Saudi religious police.
