MOSCOW, January 20 (Sputnik) — Only a half of the residents of the US city Boston support hosting the 2024 Olympics, with 33 percent opposing the idea of bringing the Olympic Games to the region, a survey by the Boston-based radio station 90.9 WBUR published Tuesday has shown.
Just 50 percent of respondents expressed excitement over Boston hosting the Olympic Games, while 41 percent said they were not thrilled about the prospect.
Three quarters of those interviewed said that the residents of Boston and other cities where the Olympic venues will be built should have a referendum on hosting the Olympics.
The survey is based on the opinions of 507 registered voters, resident in the Boston area. The interviews were carried out during live telephone conversations between January 13 and January 15.
On January 8, 2015, the United States' Olympic Committee chose Boston as the candidate city for the US bid.
The last Summer Olympic Games were hosted by the United States in 1996, in Atlanta.
