MOSCOW, January 21 (Sputnik) — Politicians and residents in the Barcelona area are calling for a renewed inquiry into 2006 clashes in the city between police officers and local citizens in light of a newly released documentary claiming that the police tortured the suspects, the Guardian reported Tuesday.

In February 2006 clashes broke out between police and local residents at an outdoor party in Barcelona. In the aftermath one officer was left quadriplegic and five people were arrested. Two of those arrested were accused of throwing stones at police. Three others were accused of hurling a fence at officers.

Assembled in 2013, the documentary Dead City aired for the first time Saturday. It includes an interview with Rodrigo Lanza, accused of throwing a rock at an officer and sentenced to five years in prison. Lanza claims he was tortured by police officers and insists that he is innocent.

Patricia Heras was accused of throwing a fence at police and was sentenced to three years in prison. The documentary suggests she had an alibi.

On Saturday, several opposition politicians joined demonstrations in Barcelona, following the release of the film. Protesters demanded that the case be reopened.

Barcelona authorities said they had provided public prosecutors with a copy of the film.
