MOSCOW, January 24 (Sputnik) – The symphony orchestra of the renown Mariinsky Theatre from St. Petersburg, Russia, continues its US tour and will perform in nine American cities between January 24 and February 6, the theatre's press service has informed RIA Novosti.
The orchestra will first go to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and then to New York, where it will perform at the Carnegie Hall. Valery Gergiev, Artistic and and General Director of the Mariinsky Theatre, will be the conductor at most of the performances.
The core of the Mariinsky orchestra program consists of works by Russian composers, such as Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Modest Mussorgsky, Dmitri Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Meanwhile, the Mariinsky Theatre ballet performed Swan Lake in New York on January 15. It will continue its performances in Washington D.C. at the Kennedy Center Opera House between January 27 and February 1.
