"This was not the result of a third party attack but instead occurred after we introduced a change that affected our configuration systems. We moved quickly to fix the problem, and both services are back to 100 percent for everyone," CNBC reports citing company's statement received via email.
The social media websites Facebook and Instagram appear to be working again Tuesday, following a glitch in their operations earlier in the day.
"We're aware that many people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram," a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement issued in response to the problem, adding, "We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."
People seeking to access Facebook were met with a message reading: "Account Temporarily Unavailable," while those who tried to view or post images on Instagram were also unable to load the website.
