"Evgeny Buryakov is an employee of Vnesheconombank. He served as the banks' Deputy Representative in New York. The bank is not provided with information about the details of the incident," the Russian bank said, in a statement issued Tuesday.
Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) refused Tuesday to comment on US accusations that two additional Russian citizens who recently left the United States had gathered intelligence under the guise of civilian occupations.
US authorities have also accused Russian citizens Igor Sporyshev and Viktor Podobny of working for the Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) along with Buryakov.
According to the US Department of Justice, Buryakov introduced himself as an employee of a Russian bank, Sporyshev claimed he was a Russian trade representative and Podobny stated that he served as an attache to Moscow's mission to the United Nations.
On Monday, New York federal prosecutors arrested Buryakov, a bank employee, on charges of conspiracy and spying for the Russian government. Buryakov said he would not plead guilty.
