On January 26, New York federal prosecutors charged Buryakov with acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government. Buryakov was arrested the same day, and appeared before a US magistrate judge in a Manhattan federal court. The case's next hearing is scheduled for early February. The Russian citizen is facing up to 15 years in prison. Russian Foreign Ministry said the US had not provided any evidence to support the charges.
