Some 50 storm troopers from the Aidar 24th battalion were seen rushing to the building and around 10 of them broke down the entrance door to the Ministry of Defense in Kiev. The ministry’s security prevented the troopers from entering the building.

The attack follows quotes in the media by a person claiming to be the battalion’s press secretary, a Yulia Yevdokymova, announcing that Aidar would be disbanded. Aidar’s press service, however, denied the information and said that Yevdokymova was not the batallion’s press secretary.
Aidar Battalion is one of volunteer military units of the Armed Forces of Ukriane, established by Kiev in 2014 to fight independence supporters in Ukraine’s eastern region of Donetsk and Luhansk. The battalion was accused by Amnesty International and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) of human rights abuses during the war in eastern Ukraine.
