PARIS, (Sputnik) — The leaders of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine discussed the current situation in Donbas by phone and marked the warring sides' compliance with the ceasefire, French President's office said in a statement on Sunday.
On Sunday midnight, the ceasefire between Kiev forces and independence militias came into force, as agreed earlier this week.
"They [the heads of the states] examined the efficiency of the ceasefire which entered force today… They stated that adherence to the ceasefire is mostly effective, despite local incidents that must be rapidly regulated," the statement reads.
The chief of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) monitoring mission in Ukraine Ertugrul Apakan said earlier on Sunday that ceasefire is mostly respected in eastern Ukraine, despite some violations.
The truce deal between the Ukrainian troops and pro-independence forces in Donbas was brokered by the leaders of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine on February 12 during 16-hour peace talks in Minsk, the capital of Belarus.
