WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A US delegation headed by Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman is set to meet Iranian officials for nuclear talks in Geneva on Thursday, the State Department said in a statement.

“Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman and the U.S. negotiating team will travel on February 19 to Geneva, Switzerland where they will meet with Iranian officials,” the statement, issued on Wednesday, said. “These bilateral consultations will take place in the context of the P5+1 nuclear negotiations with Iran, led by EU Special Advisor Cathy Ashton.”
Sherman’s delegation will include Robert Malley, the National Security Council’s point person on Iran, and Christopher Backemeyer, the State Department official responsible for sanctions policy. The meetings will be joined by Helga Schmid of the European Union’s External Action Service, the statement said.
A March deadline has been set for a preliminary agreement in nuclear talks between Iran, the United States, Russia, France, the UK, China, and Germany.
