The sapling is of the species of Ficus Religiosa. After less than a month since plantation the tree has fallen sick due to improper care but according to the gardener, the leaves have fallen due to changing weather.
Obama visited India last month and was the chief guest at the annual Republic Day parade on January 26.
Shortly after landing in India, Obama went to Rajghat for a wreath-laying and tree-planting ceremony. Obama's tree was planted on the other side of a walkway from one planted by former US president Bill Clinton during his own visit in 2000. According to media reports Clinton’s tree appears to be in perfect health.
