WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Department of State is offering rewards for information leading to the capture of two associates of the Afghan extremist group Hezb-e Islami Gulbuddin (HIG), the Department announced in a statement.
“The Secretary of State has authorized rewards of up to $3 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Abdul Saboor and up to $2 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Abdullah Nowbahar,” the statement, issued on Thursday, said.
“More than a dozen people were killed and nearly a dozen more were injured in the attack,” the release added.
The statement claimed that Saboor is also responsible for the May 16, 2013 suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack in Kabul.
“The attack killed two US soldiers, four US civilian contractors, and eight Afghans — including two children, and wounded at least 37 others,” it said.
According to the US State Department, HIG is an offshoot of Hezb-e Islami [Party of Islam], a political and paramilitary organization in Afghanistan founded in 1976 by Afghan warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. HIG has advocated anti-US ideologies and has sought to make Afghanistan a state rooted in Islamic law.
