ATHENS (Sputnik) — Anarchists have staged violent protests in the centre of Athens on Thursday after Greek far-right Golden Dawn party members vandalized a monument to anti-fascist musician killed a year ago, a source in Greek police told RIA Novosti.
“The violence began after members of the far-right party Golden Dawn poured paint in Perama on a monument to anti-fascist musician Pavlos Fyssas, who was killed a year ago. The swastika was drawn on the monument. After that anarchists marched through the city center, broke one car, threw Molotov cocktail on the other, burned garbage bins, broke some shop windows,” the source said.
After the march, anarchists staged a protest against new agreement between Greece and the international creditors.
Greece's debt to the troika of creditors comprising the European Union, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund stands at about $270 billion, accumulated due to Greece's sovereign debt crisis.
Earlier this month, Athens and Eurozone finance ministers reached an agreement to extend Greece's bailout for four months in exchange for Athens’ promise to implement a list of reforms.
