MOSCOW (Sputnik) – National Security Agency (NSA) whistleblower Edward Snowden is homesick and wants to return to the United States, Snowden's lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, said Tuesday.
"We're doing everything possible to solve this issue," Kucherena said during a press conference in Moscow.
Kucherena replied "of course" when asked if Snowden wanted to return to the United States.
Snowden has been leaking information about secret surveillance programs conducted by the NSA and other intelligence agencies since 2013.
In August 2013, he was granted asylum and subsequently a three-year residency permit by Russia. The former NSA contractor is wanted in the United States on a number of charges, including espionage and government property theft.
If extradited back to the United States, Snowden could face up to 30 years in prison.
