MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — The US policy urging world countries to block their partnerships with Russia also hinders bilateral cooperation, Russia's governmental adviser on international relations and security Sergei Rogov told Sputnik on Wednesday.
Since the cooling of US-Russian relations in 2014 following the Ukrainian crisis, US President Barack Obama and government officials have been stressing that it is "no time for business as usual with Russia."
"Obama's administration announced the 'no business as usual' policy which led to cooperation on the leftover principle," Rogov, member of advisory boards to Russia's Security Council, Foreign Ministry, and the State Duma, told Sputnik.
The adviser, who is also the director of the Institute for the US and Canadian Studies of the Russian Academy of Science (ISKRAN), listed the fight against terrorism, nonproliferation of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction and global climate change among the two countries' common interests.
Rogov concluded saying that due to the crisis in Ukraine, US-Russian cooperation "took a back seat."
