WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Another protest will take place just outside of Ferguson, Missouri on Thursday evening in front of the Pine Lawn Court following the release of US Department Justice (DOJ) report that found the city’s police department and municipal court are racially biased, a protest organizer told Sputnik.
“The purpose of today’s [protest] is to continue our campaign to reform the [Ferguson] municipal courts,” Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment (MORE) Julia Ho protest organizer told Sputnik on Thursday ahead of the protest.
“This is a problem that clearly extends past Ferguson when you look at the landscape of St. Louis, it’s not particularly worse than any of the others. It’s a widespread problem,” Ho said.
“It doesn’t make sense to say that a system is flawed and then to continue on going whatever it is you’re doing, which is exactly what the city of Ferguson has been doing for the past 7 months,” Ho added.
The DOJ conducted an extensive investigation into Ferguson’s law enforcement practices following the police killing of an unarmed teenager Michael Brown in 2014.
The 100-page investigative report, released on Wednesday, revealed that the Ferguson Police Department and municipal court intentionally racially profile African-Americans and violate their Constitutionally-protected rights.
