MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton apparently created several e-mail addresses for private use under the domain “clintonemail.com,” despite claims by her team that she only used one, Fox News reported Friday citing a source in the hacker community.
According to Fox News, an unnamed hacker used open-source tool “The Harvester” to search a variety data sources for e-mail addresses seen using the domain clintonemail.com. The search revealed that alongside hdr22@clintonemail.com that Clinton aides said she used while serving as secretary of state, there were a number of similar addresses, such as hdr18@clintonemail.com, hdr19@clintonemail.com and many more.
Earlier this week the New York Times reported that Clinton did not have an official e-mail address between 2009 and 2013 when she served as US secretary of state and used a personal account for official purposes.
The State Department said Clinton did not break any rules by doing so, as the use of "non-state.gov" accounts by officials is not prohibited, as long as their correspondence remains preserved. On Wednesday, Clinton spokesman Nick Merill said that she only used one personal e-mail address.
Meanwhile, a State Department cable dated June 28, 2011, obtained by Fox News, showed that the department's employees were warned against using personal e-mails for department business when Hillary Clinton was in office.
