MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A UK military healthcare worker has contracted Ebola while deployed in Sierra Leone, Public Health England said Wednesday.
“Medical experts are currently assessing the situation to ensure that appropriate care is delivered,” a Public Health England spokesperson said in a statement on the organization’s website.
An investigation into how the military worker contracted the virus is currently underway, and authorities are tracing individuals who have been in contact with the infected person.
There is no decision yet on whether the Ebola victim will be evacuated to the United Kingdom.
The current Ebola outbreak in West Africa has killed nearly 10,000 people since it began in late 2013, according to the latest WHO data.
Several foreign healthcare workers and volunteers have contracted the virus while taking part in the Ebola response.
